We Used to Live Here Book Review

We Used to Live Here Book Review

Hello everyone and welcome back to the blog! I'm here with another book review. One of the few horror books I've read, and I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed this one. So, let's get into it!

In this book, we follow Eve and Charlie. They just bought this big, beautiful house for such a bargain with the intent to flip it. One day, a family shows up; Thomas, the father, explains to Eve that this was his childhood home, and he would love to show his family around. People pleaser to a fault, Eve agrees to let them come in. As soon as the family enters, Eve cannot get them to leave. They won't take a hint. Not only will this family not leave, but now all these weird things keep happening, people disappearing. Eve is afraid she's losing her mind. She can't tell what is real anymore.

I am not a huge horror genre girlie. Horror movies = yes, books = eh, not really. I had heard a couple of reviews on Tiktok about this book, and all of them were really positive. I don't know what it was about this book, maybe the plotline in general, but it sounded so interesting. I was immediately intrigued.

I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. It was so good. It was gripping and twisted and spooky. I'm not going to lie, I did get a little freaked out reading this at night when I was home alone. The one review stated this is like the movies Get Out and Parasite. I've never seen Parasite so I can't attest to that, but I watched Get Out after this and they are similar. If you like one, you'll like the other.

The overall tone was very unsettling and eerie. As the reader, you knew this family was trouble. Ever since they entered the house the vibes just felt off. Thomas for sure gave off a very suspicious and unsettling aura.

The ending was not at all what I expected. Truly a twist I didn't see coming but still enjoyed. Usually when I think of horror books, I feel like some can be kind of cheesy. Especially with haunted house vibes, but this wasn't.

This is such a great book to introduce yourself into the horror genre. Overall, I gave this 5/5 stars, and I would highly recommend.

Alright folks, that is all I have for this week! Come back next Wednesday for another blog post. As always, thank you for reading:)
