The Last Party Book Review
Hello everyone and welcome back to the blog! Today, I am back with another book review. This book was from my BOTM subscription and was the perfect book to bring me out of my slump, so let's get into it!
As I have said before, I'm a thriller girlie and BOTM has the best thrillers. I was in a bit of a reading slump, I tried reading two books and had to put them down because they weren't interesting; I hate when that happens because then I start to feel a lot of pressure picking a good book.
For some backstory, there was a New Year's Eve party where everyone in this small town is invited. It's a very small town community, so everyone knows everyone. The day after the party a very well-known, older celebrity is found dead in the lake. As the detectives look further in the case, everything is not as it seems. They realize that not everyone loved having a celebrity in town.
I have to say that I rather enjoyed this book. Like I said, it was just the thing to pull me out of my slump. The book is told in mulitple perspectives, but the character's were named at the start of each chapter, as well as, the time this chapter was taking place. So, with all the perspectives and jump around I never actually found it hard to follow or confusing.
One of the things I really liked about the multiple perspectives is that you would get one character's pov from a scene and then a couple of chapters later you would get a different character's pov but from the same scene previously mentioned. So you could see how two different people reacted to the same events, or what the character were actually thinking instead of us being told by someone else. I personally don't see that lot of the time, but it was done really well here.
The chapters were also short and overall the book was just over 400 pages. It was a quick read and the action starts pretty early on in the book. I was hooked fast which was exactly what I was looking for.
While the concept of a small town party gone wrong...i.e. someone dies after a party and everyone is now a suspect isn't new, I really enjoyed it.
Overall, I would highly recommend checking this book out especially if you're looking to get out of a slump. I would give this 3.5/5 stars!
Alright folks, that is all I have for this week! Come back next Wednesday for another post! As always thank you for reading:)
