The Benefits of Re-reading Books

Hello everyone and welcome back to the blog! Today, I wanted to talk about something different for this post. My thoughts on re-reading favorite books. I know some people are all for re-reading and others say, what’s the point? This is of course, just my opinion, but I feel like it’s a unique topic of discussion. So, let’s get into it!

I am the type of person who will re-read their favorite book…multiple times. This is not something I do very often, and honestly, the books I re-read the most are the A Court of Thorns and Roses series. I believe I’ve read it 3-4 times by now, and I have no regrets.

One benefit to re-reading is that you can pick up on things that you might have missed during the first reading. Maybe they are small details, maybe it’s clearing up something you were confused about, maybe its learning something new about a character that you might have missed, etc. I personally love annotating during my second (plus) read. Or having annotated the first time and looking back at things that I highlighted or marked up.

Another thing you gain a better understanding for the world building, the plot. You know exactly what is going to happen and you know what to expect. It’s a world you love with characters that you love. And by doing this you gain a deeper understanding of the book. Plus, understanding the book brings comfort. You already know everything that is going to happen.

For kids too, re-reading helps build vocabulary and gain an understanding of how language/reading works. Your brain is constantly active when reading so, you’re exercising your comprehension skills which is so beneficial for everyone.

To boil everything down:

•Pick up on more details

•Gain a better understanding for the book (worlding building, plot, characters, etc.)

•Brings Comfort

•Helps build vocabulary and gain an understanding of how language/reading works

•Exercises comprehension skills

All of these are so important to obtain and maintain throughout our lives. Trust me there is nothing worse than having bad grammar. Reading is so important and doing whatever you can to stay connected with books especially those you know and love is very beneficial.

Alright folks, that is all I have for this week! Come back next Wednesday for another blog post! As always, thank you for reading :)
