Promise Me Sunshine Book Review

Hello everyone, and welcome back to the blog! I am back with another book review. I loved Ready or Not by Cara Bastone, and the cover had me so excited for her newest book. So, let's get into it!
In Promise Me Sunshine, we follow Lenny who just recently lost her best friend, and she isn't handling her grief well. She's a shell of her former self, dodging her parents calls, jumping from one job to the next, etc. At her newest babysitting/nanny job, Lenny meets Miles. Miles is standoffish, hides his emotions, judges her unfairly, etc. He's not the warmest person. But he sees what she's going through and offers to help her complete her "Live Again" list. The unlikely duo form a friendship that slowly develops into something deeper as they both heal.
Honestly, this book was so real and so sad but so good. Friendship was definitely at the forefront of this book which I think plays into the fact that people find love when they least expect it. Lenny and Miles both had to work through a lot of pain and hurt before they could think about being in a relationship with another person. I liked their chemistry, and I liked seeing the softer side to Miles. I also liked how opposite their personalities were. Lenny really brought Miles out of his shell.
Healing isn't linear, and I think Bastone did a great job of showing that. I think the topic of losing someone close to you was handled with care. I mean there were some really sad parts, but I think it was necessary for us to see all sides of healing.
Overall, I would highly recommend. I will say it's not your typical feel good, girly romance, there's a lot of depth to it; however, it was still really good. I gave this 3.5/5 stars.
Alright folks, that is all I have for this week! Come back next Wednesday for another blog post. As always, thank you for reading :)
