Pretty Girls Book Review
Hello everyone and welcome back to the blog! Today, I am back with another review! This one has been highly recommended to me, and I have also heard a lot of good things about it. So let's get into it!
The book follows two sisters, Claire and Lydia. When they were younger, their sister Julia went missing and the case eventually fizzled out. But when girls start disappearing again, Claire and Lydia can't help but think back to the sister they lost. There was no closure. Claire and Lydia have since drifted a part mostly due to Claire's husband, Paul. But when Paul passes unexpectedly, Claire finds herself in the middle of something very twisted and needs the help of her sister.
First, I have to say this was the most gruesome book I have ever read in my life. So, I would check the triggers before reading this because it's all throughout the book. There were times when I needed to put the book down and just take a break. Clear it from my mind.
One of the things I really liked about this book was the pacing. This is over 500 pages which is long for a thriller. I was a little worried that the beginning would be boring, but no, you jump right into action.
There is a lot of backstory about the two main sisters and their family. Which made the chapters super long. I mean, I got through the book what felt like faster, but they were like 20--40 pages long (on my Kindle at least).
The other thing I really liked was the writing. Yes, the chapters were long, but there was so much detail. Everything was connected.
Claire was one of my favorite characters. She was really helpless and frazzled in the beginning (which makes sense given the circumstances), but she really shows how brave she is. She is determined to bring justice to the missing girls. Basically, she turns into a badass. Especially at the end.
Overall, I would give this 3.5/5 stars. I would recommend if you're up for it because it was really good. I do what to check out other Karin Slaughter novels. I just don't know yet how gruesome the others are.
Alright folks, that is all I have for this week! Come back next Wednesday for another blog past! As always, thank you for reading:)
