One Perfect Couple Book Review

Hello everyone and welcome back to the blog! I finished the newest book from one of my favorite authors, Ruth Ware. I had been so excited to read this at the beach this summer, so let’s get into it!

One Perfect Couple is a mash-up of The Perfect Match from Netflix and Survivor mixed with a little bit of murder. I was so excited when I read the plot-line for this because I can’t remember the last time, I read a book like this. We follow our main character, Lyla, whose boyfriend, Nico, wants to make it big as an actor. Nico gets an opportunity to do a reality TV show called, One Perfect Couple. Lyla needs convincing because being on TV isn't her thing, but she agrees. It doesn’t take long for disaster to strike…literally. A huge tropical storm strands the couples on the island/filming venue. There’s no sign of the crew. They are stuck with little food and water in the blazing heat. What could go wrong?

I think the whole idea of this story is so cool. I haven’t read something like this before, and I think it’s really unique especially with how popular reality TV is right now. I mean Love Island just ended, there was just a new season of The Perfect Match earlier in the summer. It’s perfect timing.

The different dynamics of the couples made it easy to remember who was who and who was with who. I get nervous when I see a lot of characters because it becomes really hard to keep everyone straight. But it proved to be easy with Ware’s writing and character development.

I flew through this book considering it was about 340ish pages. I was so enthralled and desperately wanted to know how it ended; however, the ending fell flat for me. I was expecting more of a major twist, but I felt let down. I don’t think there was a huge twist…there wasn't anything that really blew me away... I didn't feel that heart stopping moment. To me it felt like we knew who the killer was from the beginning. I was expecting the course to change; I had so many theories, but none of them came true.

Don’t get me wrong it was still very good, and I really liked this book…I was just expecting more.

Overall, if you like Ruth Ware you’ll like this book, and I do think this is a great beach read. I give this 4/5 stars.

Alright folks, that is all I have for today. Come back next week for another blog post! As always thank you for reading:)
