Funny Story Book Review

Funny Story Book Review

Hello everyone and welcome back to the blog! Today, I am back with a very exciting book review. The queen of rom-com novels dropped a new book this year! I love Emily Henry books and can't wait to talk about this one. So, let's get into it!

Emily Henry is one of my favorite authors; I love every single book she's come out with. She just never disappoints, and Funny Story is no exception.

We follow Daphne and Miles who were both just recently dumped by their partners, the kicker is now their partners are engaged to each other! Daphne, who now has nowhere to go, becomes roommates with Miles. Both feeling distraught and torn with grief, they strike an agreement to fake date. Because no way are they are going attend their exes wedding without a plus one. What could honestly go wrong?

This book combines 2 of my favorite tropes, faking dating and forced proximity. Faking dating will never not be top tier, and I think it was so well done here. Trying to make the exes jealous, Miles being just the sweetest human ever, its the perfect recipe.

The characters are so lovable. Miles needs to be protected at all costs; he is just the sweetest characters ever. Daphne really just got screwed over by her ex, who not only broke her heart, he also kicked her out of their (his) house knowing she had nowhere to go.

But it wouldn't be an Emily Henry novel if we also didn't have bigger issues in the foreground. This is the thing I love about Henry's writing, not only is this a rom-com, but she adds so much depth to the characters. She brings their issues and trauma to the reader so we actually care. Miles doesn't talk to his family, oh, why is that? Daphne has daddy issues, what did her dad do? Miles and Daphne are so protective of each other, it makes me as a reader protective too.

Also, in general, Emily Henry's writing is flawless...my favorite quote is, "My abdomen feels like one of those water wiggler toys, the glitter and liquid inside bubbling furiously to the top as it flips. I'm sure I'm blushing" (pg. 147). Are you kidding me? That is the most amazing descriptive sentence I have ever read. Out of 384 pages, I still can't stop thinking about this line.

Overall, I would give this book 5/5 stars. Emily Henry never disappoints. Its as simple as that. I would highly recommend if you're looking for a new favorite author, looking to get out of a slump, or just looking for your next good book.

Alright folks, that is all I have for this week! Come back next Wednesday for another blog post! As always, thank you for reading:)
