Darling Girls Book Review

Hello everyone and welcome back to the blog! Today, I have another book review, and I'm so excited for this one. So, let's get into it!

Darling Girls, follows foster sisters, Jessica, Norah, and Alicia as they try to navigate everyday life and push the memories of their childhood from their minds. Easier said than done. Especially when they get a call that a body has been found underneath the house they grew up in. Now forced to face their trauma-filled memories, they have to return to the place it all started...and come face to face with the person responsible for their nightmares, Miss. Fairchild.

This book was a wild ride. I truly could not put this down. The flashbacks to the childhood memories were gripping, and the need to find out who the body is and what happened was intense.

I do read a lot of thriller books, but I think this is one of the more intense child-abuse ones that I've read. It's shocking. I mean I know its fiction, but stuff like this happens in real life. I think there should've been a trigger warning in the beginning. The book is not graphic but still. I could see it being triggering for some people.

I really liked how the story was told. It wasn't until the end that I realized there were technically three timelines going on. I know that sounds like a lot, but its very easy to keep track of. Along with the multiple point of views. Each sister was so distinct from the others that it made keeping track of everyone really easy.

Miss. Fairchild was such an interesting character. For that reason alone, this would make a great bookclub book. First of all, her name...Fairchild...this is the complete opposite of everything she is. It's almost like an oxymoron, but I'm not sure if that is the right term for this device specifically. (I know and I'm an English major)! I think the author really did a good job of portraying a narcissistic character. This lady was so diabolical.

Darling Girls was gripping from the start. I finishing this in less than a day. This is my first Sally Hepworth novel, and I will definitely look into more of her work. Overall, I would give this 5/5 stars.
