Chicago Ruthless Series Review (First Three Books)

Hello everyone and welcome back to the blog! Today, I am back with a series review (well...series review minus the last book). This material is different from what I traditionally read, so let's get into it!

The Chicago Ruthless series by Sadie Kincaid follows the Moretti siblings (a crime family) involved in the Chicago mafia. As the titles suggest, the siblings are Dante, Joey, Lorenzo, and Keres. This is a mafia dark romance, so its very spicy and graphic. The Moretti siblings are the most powerful family in Chicago, have friends in high places, and do not mess around. They will protect each other and go to great lengths to do so. Each book follows a siblings journey to love and freedom.

I think the second book, Joey, was my favorite. A hint of forbidden romance and brother's best friend vibes. The third book, Lorenzo, was my least favorite mainly because the writing was annoying. There was way too much back and forth between the main characters (Lorenzo and Mia). As in, does he want to be with her or not? It got really annoying. There was a little bit of this in Dante too. The writing overall could've been way better. It felt very...I'm not sure how to describe it. Sometimes it was cringey. None of the main female characters had any will power or backbone (maybe Joey but...).

I don't think I've ever read a dark romance before this series, and I've never read anything about mafia romances either. I wasn't entirely sure what to expect. As I said above, this is a review about the first three book only. I wasn't interested in the fourth, and I figured out I'm not really into the whole mafia thing. After the third book, the spice was repetitive and overdone. Granted, I did read these back to back (to back).

The amount of s*x happening in these books is so unrealistic. I said what I said.

I gave the first two books 3/5 stars, and the third book 2/5 stars.

A lot of what happens in each book is very repetitive in terms of plot, dialogue, etc. It felt like the books sometimes went on forever because of the arguments and the spice was just the same thing with slight adjustments. I do have to say though, there was a lot of dark subject matter involved in these (obviously), so check the trigger warnings before starting.

If you're looking for a palette cleanser, or an introduction into dark romances then I think these would be something to consider.

Overall, they were interesting and I did enjoy them. Would I read more like these or more from this author? I don't know yet. I'm leaning towards no.

Alright folks, that is all I have for today! Come back next Wednesday for another blog post. As always, thank you for reading :)
